Reyna needs a nerf (In-Depth Explanation)

Reyna is currently way too broken, she gives out too much for just one character.

So based of my experience, I've been playing Valorant since closed beta, and I had no issues with all the characters that was in the game since launch, the first 10 that is. And so far, I thought the game was pretty balanced out and I had a lot of fun with not much complains.

But then , dun dun DUNNNNNNN, Reyna was introduced, when I first saw her abilities I was shocked, immediately as a player that has played a few hundred games on Valorant, I knew that she was going to be broken.

So now coming to the issues of Reyna and why I believe and strongly like to believe that she's broken, the first thing is her Eye skill "Leer", out of everything so far, I think this is the biggest problem with Reyna. This skill for those who do not know what's up with it, it's basically a near sighted skill similar to Omen's skill. Except, you just leave it there in the open and if it's even a pixel in your FOV(Field of Vision) you're gone. You can't see anything except a banana's length. So people would be asking, so what's wrong with this skill? The problem with this skill is that, the eye that Reyna puts out has an insane effective range on it, and the only way to destroy the eye, is to either wait out the duration of the orb which I think is around 3 seconds or shoot a few bullets at it. And when I say a few bullets at it, around 3-5 bullets to kill it based of my experience.

Then here is the problem, the problem here is if you're in a 1v1 space versus Reyna, and she puts out the eye, the moment she puts out the eye as long as you see it you're gone, so you think to yourself okay, let's shoot the eye then, but when you shoot the eye, reyna also pushes out, so that leaves you with 2 targets. Reyna and the eye, and the only thing visible to you is the eye. Which gives Reyna if using the eye correctly a practically 99.999% chance of winning the duel without much skill. There's no counter play to it. To win Reyna, you always need 2 people to fight her, one to shoot the eye and one to shoot Reyna, so in a 1v1 clutch fight against a Reyna who has her ability "Leer" is a fight chance you're probably not going to win, and this is the part which makes her broken, extremely.

In conclusion to her Leer, the only way to win the fight if used correctly is.

2v1 situation.

... yes, that's the only way to win a fight against Reyna's eye. And if some of you say that this is a very biased opinion, let me give you a few example and scenarios.

Blue X - You / Purple X - Leer / Red X - Reyna

As you can see in this situation, when you walk into site, and if for some reason she knows you're there, and she eyes the location at purple, you're technically in a checkmate, you can't check for Reyna in front, and you can't walk to the side as Reyna just pushes out to kill you, and if you run to the side she knows exactly where you are and you don't know where she is. Checkmate, and worst off, if she just pushes together with the Leer on Land, you can't do anything, you're only option is to randomly spray in whatever direction you think she's in your shoot the eye which will result in her shooting you. You can't win a 1v1 situation, the only way to win this is to have another teammate shoot the eye and another teammate to shoot Reyna. It's not balanced.

For this situation, you're the terrorist side. When you're planting the bomb, it's inevitable she'll hear you. If she's positioned in heaven, and she decides to eye the spot there, and peak out the same time. You only have 3 option here, shoot at blank space and pray to your beloved RNJeezus you kill her, shoot at the eye, or stare at the wall beside of you. No counter play as usual. This are situations that happen to much. I hope with the situations you guys understand the issues with Reyna's Leer abilities. This happens way too often, and is extremely strong mostly on solo queue where there is no coordination for a person to kill the eye and a person to kill Reyna. Everyone will just aim at the eye and it's a free range from there on for Reyna and her teammates.

Just an idea from a friend to make it balanced, which I truly support. Is make Reyna's Leer a flashbang, where when the eye reaches it's destination, it detonates and anyone that has it in their FOV would have the nearsightedness.

So that's the issue I have with Reyna's Leer ability, now moving on to the next issue with Reyna, her ultimate. The biggest issue here is that, it's way too long. It's basically lasting the entirety of the round, it's way too long. And that's just besides the point, if she's in her ulti, she turns invisible and becomes invulnerable. Leaving her able to flank anywhere in a 1v5 situation. Just so you guys haven't noticed. If you have scrolled down the valorant subreddit, you will notice that majority of the aces in here is Reyna and her using her ulti with the invisibility just killing everyone, and as you can tell majority of them are low elo matches, which is where I'm going to say that she's ridiculously strong in the lower elos. I can see people abusing this mechanic and climbing up the ranks in Valorant which just makes the rank system very unstable, and does not reflect true skills.

And that's all I've got to tell you guys about Reyna's issue, I think she needs a nerf or just a rework all in all. Thanks for reading the chunk of text if you did.

She most definitely needs a nerf but I feel like their gonna say the same thing about Reyna that they did about Raze "We don't think shes overpowered" With her one-shot RPG.

I kind of have to agree with you on this one. But in this aspect it's like league of legends, champs get buffed and nerfed a lot. They also release champs that are OP.

This could be the case Reyna could of been released OP so the devs can find what needs to be nerfed.

I disagree with your opinion and heres why:

We should never look at a single character on its own, but compare it to other abilities and roles in the game.
Reynas main purpose is duelist. She is supposed to have the upper hand in a 1v1 and should be able to handle 1v2 cause that is what she excels in just like viper or sage would be strong picks for defense.
Her leer ability is strong, but it is also her only utility. looking at her kit you can say she is heavily reliant on good gunplay. If you change her leer in aforementioned way, id say its just a worse version of Phoenix's flash.

Her heal is imo balanced, perhaps even a risky move on her part. It might be a quick heal but it will not make a difference with some well aimed shots to the head. Additionally you see a line from the orb to Reyna which reveals your location. Pair that with her having to be in line of sight to receive the healing and she is a darn easy target for peekers. And yes this is speaking of a 1v2 scenario cause once again her design is to be strong 1v1 and should be rewarded with a heal if she does win it. Then it would be the opposing team's fault for going in solo.

Her invincibility is an escape tool probably meant to grab a kill in a 1vX situation and escape unscathed. However when she escapes invincibility she cannot shoot right away. The duration is short so unless you find a good corner to relocate yourself in i'd say the usage is very limited. In fact I would say she needs a buff so that once she exits invincibility her gun is reloaded.

Lastly I want to discuss her ultimate which in my opinion is once again not overpowered. She gets loads of buffs and utility out of her kit but the fact is, if you suck at gunplay it is pretty useless. There is no CC or utility in it in itself. Yes she can go invisible and invinceable but for that she needs a kill, otherwise nothing.

All around I think she is strong at what she does, but what she does is very limited. Therefore I dont believe she is OP nor needs a nerf.

alright, you want an edge on nerfing Reyna, the where to dig your nerf claws is between her healing and her flashbang. dig at that you might get somewhere. I don't find to much of a problem with her, but I'm also very confident. also try shooting her in the head. usually works.

edit: also Reyna ult sucks donkey.

Yeah she most definately needs a nerf. its infuriating. I dont think ive been in a game where the reyna hasnt been at the top of the scoreboard. She is a frag heavy operator who has more utility than the controllers. Her leer ability needs to have reduced range because that alone can blind an entire site. She is a duelist and this ability would make sense if you hit people in close spaces with it but right now she can through it through walls across the map and blind an entire site lmao. Why would you bring a phantom or brimstone to smoke off parts of the site when she can just throw her leers into the site and blind almost every position. And leer is just one ability. not only does she have the ability to blind an entire site of players twice but she also has health regen, overhealing and her intagible ability guarantees she can get this at least once a round. The intagible ability also gives her better recon than most people due to the fact that she can check corners for free with it, its essentially a weaker version of phoenix ult. Her ult means she is almost guaranteed to win gunfights unless the other player hits headshots on her and once she wins it she then heals back to full again.

I know this turned into a bit of a rant but in short.
-She has more vision denial than controllers
-She has a passive version of phoenix ult
-She has overhealing and almost guaranteed healing
-Her ult gives a dps buff, reload buff and the ability to heal from 1 hp all the way back up to overhealed

reduce her healing to 75 from 100, and you will see Reyna with 125 health more often. this will bring her healing to a point where sage wouldn't need a buff to her healing to remain at an even power level, and Reyna no longer can rely on being brought to full health if she makes a mistake. lets keep this game skill based, not "I used my ability I win" based.

jellicoDace so making a "mistake" means getting an entry frag... I really hate to say it but from my cs go experience entry fragger is the most "unwanted" role in Most line ups. Have you ever tried to push somewhere with 5 ppl, Valorant or cs doesnt really matter which game, and nobody wanted to go first. thats where reyna comes in perfectly! Her only ability she can use without getting a kill first is her flash and her ult both are ment to lower the disadvantage of a pushing player against a def player holding an angle. A reyna how is just farming rotation kills or has bad aim has legit 0 impact on the Game.

She shouldn’t be able to heal back armor or orbs should drop after every 2 kills or after a kill and a half kill+assist. Imagine if other duelist got their skills after every kill.

Bro her eye flash need a hard nerf, how can it be the only blind that does not affect u or teamate, her eye ability give more utility Brimstone and Bridge. You throw it out and run in and ur opponent have to shoot eye giving you a easier win to the duel or they have retreat. The ability deny any chance of offense or defense. The eye is also active so so long it's dumb. They need to just hard nerf that so much, the range and duration of eye active need to be cut in half or it can only be use once. The spell is stronger than sage wall but it has 2 charges. Reynar is brain dead in this aspect of the game.

I don't think she's strong AT ALL, especially in high level play. She's good for smurfing but that's about it. She provides very little utility to her team, the only thing she has is her flash, but after those are gone she either get's kills or she's useless. Her ult is good for clutch situations but it's not something you can rely on having alot.
