Sergio I know that this isn't something new but I am trying to prevent this from becoming the norm in my favorite games. For now they are just testing the waters with these overpriced skins and manipulative sales tactics and I'm afraid that if people just accept this then we can soon see it in League of legends as well.
[unknown] Yeah they are just testing the waters with these overpriced skins and manipulative sales tactics. If they succeed then it's only a matter of time before it comes to league of legends.
[unknown] Sadly you're completely correct. If we don't speak out now, then soon these prices and sales tactics will be in all our favorite games.
[unknown] So first of all, most of the game's revenue goes to the company not to the developers, the developers don't get paid the more skins they sell, they earn a salary like any other employee. It's a business and Riot games has a lot of disposable money, the devs will not starve to death working for them even if we stop buying skins.
(Don't believe me, check their annual income) You are not directly feeding the artists and game developers by purchasing these skins. Riot games will do whatever it takes to get as much money as possible and they are not doing it for their employees.
The truth behind all of this is that Riot games has come out with a new game and they are taking the opportunity to test the waters with more aggressive sales tactics and higher prices. If we as consumers accept this, then they will see it as a success and you will soon see the prices of skins in League of legends increase as well. What they are doing is very common in the gaming industry. (EA games is a prime example) . They didn't make Valorant free to play because they want to be generous, it is just a marketing tactic to get a lot of players.
Free-to-play is not an excuse to sell skins that cost the same amount as any new game. (You can buy 1 or 2 skins for 30$ in valorant while for the same price you can purchase The Witcher 3.)
I get that you're thinking, "oh hey if you don't want to buy the skins then don't buy them
", and you're right but that doesn't change the fact that they are employing manipulative sales practices with the limited store and high prices and if people give into these tactics then Riot will lean in even more and make them even worse. And most likely they will start doing the same in their other games if they succeed in Valorant. They are just testing the waters and if people take it up their .... then we can all expect these tactics to get worse for the consumers as they will not stop unless we do something about it.
